I knew this was coming sooner or later, but after winning three ships with the Detroit Shock, Laimbeer is more than ready to take the helm of an NBA team. The Shock will probably be fine without him, because Rick Mahorn is ready to be a head coach in the WNBA after learning under Laimbeer.
I have a feeling that he will either be coaching the Pistons if Dumars decides to let Curry go (you can't blame Curry over last season) or he will be an assistant somewhere, the highest ranking one. I don't see any other NBA teams taking him at this point since the coaching carousel has more or less been settled for now...
Still, I'm a little disappointed that Laimbeer would quit only three games into the season, since the Shock are injury riddled with Plenette Pierson and Cheryl Ford yet to play this season, among others..
Question to you all is, would you want Bill Laimbeer to be the head coach of your team (or any team) and if you want him as an assistant, where would he be most effective. To me, he should coach Detroit, but he could also be a defensive guru at a team that could learn some defense like Washington or OKC. I doubt he could be a good defensive assistant at Golden State or New York because the offense is their defense.
